New York City public school students are being denied opportunities to determine their own educational experience

Historically, when youth civic engagement is properly resourced, it has led to changes that move toward real racial and socioeconomic integration and equity in schools.

  1. End mayoral control and restore community control of NYC Public Schools.

  2. Give student members of decision-making bodies the right to vote, adequate accessibility accommodations, and leadership development support.

  3. Change eligibility requirements for student representatives in school governance to reflect diversity in school experience and academic achievement

  4. Fill all open seats for students on the PEP, all CECs, and SLTs.

  5. Increase student members of the PEP from two to five.

  6. Reduce mayoral appointees on the PEP from thirteen to five, and replace those seats with elected parent positions immediately.

We are currently offering workshops, campaign tabling and youth speakers to our allies. These offerings are a safe creative space where youth voice and experience is prioritized, while having deep conversations about what real student involvement in school looks like. Our workshops and tabling offerings are created by young people for young people.
